Online Learning Resources

At Heston Primary School we believe that the ability to use technology responsibly and safely is a vital skill that modern children require.  In order to suport this philosophy, we provide access to a number of online educational resources to help our children learn.  Some of the resources can only be accessed within the school, however many of the resources can be accessed outside of school on your pc, tablet or even  smart phone.

Your child will be provided with a "USO" password.  This password provides access to the LGFL page that we as a school use as a content provider.

The following list contains some of the resources that can be accessed via the LGFL site using your child's "USO" password.

Hestonlink

Hestonlink is our in school social media and resource platform. Here, within a secure environment, children can communicate with friends in  their year group by sending emails and creating blog entries.

Don't forget to look at the learning library which is packed full of curriculum linked games and activities that wiill support your child's learning.

Maths at Home

Maths Whizz – every child from Year 1 upwards is given a login to this online tutor programme. Our learners complete an initial assessment to work out their baseline maths age, the programme identifies topics where they need to ‘catch-up’ and sets them various lessons, activities and tests. As the children work through the programme, they make ‘progressions’. Our teachers can track and monitor their pupils’ progress. www.whizz.com.

White Rose – Home Learning  - find out more about White Rose Maths at https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning?year=year-1  . The homelearning section provides videos to support the small steps we teach in school.

Timestable Rockstars – TT Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. https://play.ttrockstars.com/auth/school/student/undefined/password

Espresso

We use Espresso in school because of its rich curriculum content.  It suppports learning accross the curriculum and accross all year groups.  Some of the phonics materials are particularly useful for foundation and KS1 children, and they're fun too.

Oxford Reading Buddy and Accelerated Reader

We all know how important reading is for children's development and  academic achievement.  Oxford Reading Buddy is an online library of 500+ books where your child can access and read books selected for their age and ability. (this site requires a seperate log in). Oxford Reading Buddy provides a comprehension quiz for every book to consolidate learning. The digital Reading Buddy in the coaching eBooks models and prompts strategies that have been proven to improve comprehension.

Children from Y3-Y6 also have access to Accelerated Reader.

Both these programs enable the school and families to access real-time information on their child's reading progress.

Think You Know

At Heston  Primary School, we  take online safety very seriously.  The Think You Know website is a government created site that provides information to parents and children about how to stay safe in the increasingly complex online world our children live in.

Busy Things

This site is particulary relevent to younger children, although there is something for everyone right up to year 6.  This site is full of fun games and acticities to support children's learning.
